Data Management

IEc’s information management capabilities have evolved to meet the challenges of the “big data” era. Our expert consultants work in tandem with IEc’s Computer Resources Department to deliver insight and results to clients with critical information management demands. We work closely with clients to identify the optimum approach for compiling, storing, displaying, and disseminating information.

IEc’s data management systems revolve around client and project needs. We create and adapt databases, incorporate existing databases into improved environments, and develop turnkey systems built from original data sources. We develop and maintain a variety of web-based collaborative environments that support project administration, including document libraries, calendars, message boards, notification systems, and wikis. Depending upon the needs of a project, IEc may apply custom programming to accomplish specific tasks or assist clients and/or stakeholders in managing time-intensive and/or redundant activities.

Specialty Areas

IEc creates data systems that satisfy project-specific needs. We are experienced in designing new databases as well as updating and refining existing databases. We work to ensure that our methods and sources are both transparent and reproducible.  Our database administrators are experienced in creating database structures that are both easy to maintain and efficient. To maximize our flexibility, we are expert in a variety of data management systems, including Microsoft Access, SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostGreSQL, and Amazon Redshift.

Using online visualization tools, such as Pentaho BI and Tableau, IEc builds applications that allow users to quickly and easily explore data.  IEc creates querying tools that allow users to generate reports and dashboards to further explore both the underlying data and analytic results. In addition, IEc regularly develops custom programming to process large quantities of geographic and non-geographic data, and then arrays the resulting information within dashboards showing maps, charts, and data tables to communicate trends over time and space.
