Most Recent Measure Definition (From FY2010 or FY2010, if available): Terms and Phrases: Harmful algal blooms (HABs) cause public health advisories, halt commercial and recreational shellfish harvesting, limit recreation, exacerbate human respiratory problems, and cause fish kills. EPA is working with Mexico and the Gulf States to implement an advanced detection forecasting capability system to manage harmful algal blooms and for notifying public health managers. Methodology for Computation of Results: U.S. and Mexico are working to expand harmful algal bloom detection capabilities.
